Consumer-run Programs are designed and provided with an emphasis on consumer empowerment, choice, self-determination, rehabilitation, and recovery. While professional staff provide clinical and rehabilitation services through employing professional training and skills, all services are enhanced through the effective participation of consumers as Board members, support staff, advisors, and direct providers of services. Based on their own experiences within the mental health service system and the community as a whole, consumers provide a personal perspective and greater sense of empathy to both consumers and providers of services. The effectiveness of all programs provided by Lincoln Behavioral Services is thus significantly enhanced.

Our Place Consumer-Run Drop-In Center

While affiliated with Lincoln Behavioral Services, Our Place is an independent non-profit organization under contract to Gateway Community Health. This program is a social-recreational drop-in center designed, developed, staffed, and operated by mental health consumers. Consumers organize and manage activities and programs of their own design, and the Drop-In Center affords consumers the opportunity to assume greater responsibility for their own social, recreational, educational, and interpersonal needs, while developing a sense of belonging combined with self-worth and interpersonal enjoyment.
The Drop-In Center is based on a recovery model that indludes peer support, symptom management, and connectedness. The values, needs, and preferences of members are respected and honored.
Peer Support Program

The Peer Support program incorporates the recovery model and philosophy, and includes skill building groups, peer mentoring, and employment/vocational goals. Ceritified Peer Support Specialists (CPSS) receive specialized training from the Michigan Department of Community Health, and are employed by many Lincoln Behavioral Services programs, including the Case Management Team, Supported Employment Services, Permanent Supportive Housing Services, and the Assertive Community Treatment program. The role of the Certified Peer Support Specialist is a key component of all of these programs, and is integral to the treatment planning process. The shared perspectives of Certified Peer Support Specialists provide a true-to-life prospect of hope and recovery to new and existing consumers.
